Chef Kannan’s Oliva Bistro Café

One fine day, we braved the Manila traffic to visit our former colleague Chef Kannan Jayaprakash Sreedevi at his new restaurant  Oliva Bistro Café . It was quite a drive to get to Visayas Avenue but a promise to dine in his place was long overdue.

Chef Kannan started his Philippine career with his catering and food delivery business Party To Go By Chef Kannan. He also did a teaching stint as part-time chef instructor at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

Chef Kannan grew up in Kerala in India and studied cheffing at At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy in Singapore. Then he came to Manila for LOVE! He moved here to marry his charming Filipina wife Denden Madridejos-Kannan. There is more juiciness to the love story but that is reserved for close friends. The couple now turned entrepreneurs operate their 54-seater restaurant in Quezon City.

Kannan’s restaurant Oliva Bistro Café specializes in Asian and Western cuisine. Not fusion cooking but more of the classical dishes or traditional food from around the world. The menu is similar to that of a hotel coffee shop and has the same quality standards. The Quezon City crowd is lucky because the food is so reasonably priced.

Kannan  makes wonderful pasta and has a strong background in Western and Continental cuisine. For me his Hainanese chicken rice and curry dishes are the real winners!
